Portugal and Wine
Portugal occupies the western part of Iberian Peninsula. It has Atlantic ocean to its west and
Mediterranean sea to its south. Portugal is one of the warmest countries in the Europe.
It has excellent climatical conditions for growing a wide variety of grapes. Portugal
has as many as 500 distint varieties of native grapes. It is believed that the
viticulture is around 4000 years old in Portugal and it has world's oldest appellation
system. Portuguese culture is essentially latin of ancient Romans and Wine has a special
place in its culture. Portugal is home to some of the most celebrated
Wines in the world including, Port Wines.
