Dolcetto

Dolcetto is a famous black grape variety from around the Piedmont region of northern Italy. It is an easy to grow and relatively early ripening grape variety. Although several DOCs (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) produce Dolcetto, the most prominent ones are Dolcetto d'Alba and Docetto d'Asti.

Wines made from Dolcetto are reddish-purple and light- to medium-bodied. They are easy drinking wines that are usually consumed young. Tasting notes include fruit aromas such as ripe blackberries and red plum. Dolcetto wines taste dry and have soft tannins.
